Nano vs Microblading

A problem a lot of artists can run into with microblading is that over time, the trauma causes scar tissue to build up which can only be worked over so many times before you can no longer touch up the brows. Longevity

Both nano and microblading are forms of permanent makeup. The results last a long time, but eventually will fade out. How fast they fade depends on several different factors, such as the client’s skin type, body chemistry, and lifestyle. Still, each style has respective timelines.

Microblading: generally, microblading results last up to 18 months. This can be prolonged with touch ups and proper aftercare, which includes avoiding sunlight, exfoliation, and skincare products containing retinol. Microblading also fades and blurs faster on oily skin.

Nano: Nano brows last from 1.5 to 2.5 years on average, so a bit longer than microblading. The reason for this is that machine application makes the strokes more resilient. Oily skin will probably fade nano brows a bit faster than dry to normal skin, but not as quickly as with microblading. Nano brows are also more suitable for skin with large pores, as the precision of the application prevents pigment blurring over time.

Why Nano?

As a student, I started with manual microblading like most brow artists. I believe it is a great foundational technique to have as a beginner, however, over time I did not like the idea of clients having to come back for such frequent touch ups on their brows. Microblading can give great results, but the longevity was not enough for me or my clients and was not versatile enough for my clients with oilier skin or larger pores who wanted a softer hairstroke styled brow.

What I love about nano brows is the versatility that they give: more precision as well as a fluffier, more natural look. The strokes are thinner, and they can be tapered to look more like natural hairs. That’s why nano brows are a better option for clients with little to no brow hairs. Because the strokes are more durable, nano brows are also a better choice for oilier skin types with more pores and more mature skin because the needle is gentler on the skin than a microblading blade.
